NIDA Center for GWAS in Outbred Rats – 9th Annual Retreat

Our lab was thrilled to participate in the NIDA Center for GWAS in Outbred Rats – 9th Annual Retreat held on Friday, October 27, 2023 organized by Dr. Abraham Palmer. The event was a significant gathering of leading researchers in the field, and our team members actively contributed to the discussions and knowledge exchange.

Dr. Giordano de Guglielmo delivered a compelling talk titled "Exploring Individual Differences in Alcohol Dependence: From Behavioral Profiling in HS Rats to Novel Therapeutics and Translational Insight." His presentation highlighted innovative approaches to understanding alcohol dependence and developing targeted treatments.

Dr. Michelle Doyle showcased her research through a poster titled "Individual Differences in Addiction-Like Behaviors and Sensitivity to Ethanol in Dependent and Nondependent Heterogeneous Stock Rats," co-authored with Selen Dirik, Angelica Martinez, Caitlin Crook, Abraham Palmer, and Giordano de Guglielmo.

Mohini Iyer presented a poster on the "Relationship Between Addiction-Like Behaviors, Gut Microbiome, and Metabolomics in Alcohol-Dependent Rats," co-authored with Michelle R Doyle, Angelica R Martinez, Selen Dirik, Allegra Aron, Sierra Simpson, and Giordano de Guglielmo, exploring the interconnected factors influencing addiction.

Selen Dirik presented research on how the "Nicotinic α3β4 Receptor Modulates Addiction-Like Behaviors in Alcohol Dependent Rats," co-authored with Michelle R Doyle, Ran Qiao, Marsida Kallupi, and Giordano de Guglielmo, offering insights into potential molecular targets for therapeutic intervention.

Finally, Ran Qiao discussed "Enhancing Addiction Severity Prediction by Modulating GABAergic Activity in the Central Amygdala of RATTACA Rats," co-authored with Michelle R Doyle, Benjamin Johnson, Giordano de Guglielmo, Abraham A Palmer, and Marsida Kallupi, which focuses on the neurobiological mechanisms underlying cocaine addiction.

The retreat was an excellent opportunity for our team to share findings and discuss research data with other members of the NIDA Center for GWAS in Outbred Rats.
