63rd Annual Meeting of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) in Phoenix, Arizona.
Dr. Giordano de Guglielmo and Dr. Marsida Kallupi presented their work at the 63rd Annual Meeting of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP), held from December 8-11, 2024 in Phoenix, Arizona.
In a poster titled "Enhancing Addiction Severity Prediction by Modulating GABAergic Activity in the Central Amygdala of RATTACA Rats" Dr. Kallupi and her co-authors Ran Qiao, Michelle R Doyle, Benjamin Johnson, Giordano de Guglielmo and Abraham A Palmer, explored novel approaches to predicting the severity of addiction. By targeting GABAergic activity in the central amygdala of a unique rat model, the team uncovered new insights that could inform the development of more effective addiction treatments.
Complementing this cutting-edge research, Dr. de Guglielmo presented a poster on "Identification of Alcohol Addiction Phenotypes in Genetically Diverse Rats: Implications for Medication Developments." This work, co-authored by: Michelle R Doyle, Selen Dirik, Angelica R Martinez, Paola Campo, Maria G Balaguer, Courtney P Wood, Thiago M. Sanches, Elaine Keung, Apurva S Chitre, Beverly Peng, Sofia Jaber, Mohini R Iyer, Xiuhan Li, Alex A Morgan, Kalie A Quon-Adams, Abigail Sanchez, Adam Shi, Anirudh Vaiyapuri, and Abraham A Palmer, highlighted the key differences in alcohol use disorder (AUD)-related behaviors between male and female rats, as well as between vulnerable, intermediate, and resistant subpopulations.
Notably, Dr. de Guglielmo also participated as a mentor in the ACNP's newest initiative, the URM Near-Peer Mentorship Program. This multi-year program is designed to provide comprehensive mentorship and training to aspiring researchers from historically underrepresented groups, with the goal of promoting diversity and supporting the next generation of scientists in neuropsychopharmacology and related disciplines.
The research presented by Drs. de Guglielmo and Kallupi at the 63rd ACNP Annual Meeting reflects the college's commitment to advancing the field of neuropsychopharmacology through rigorous scientific investigation and evidence-based approaches. As active reviewers for the ACNP's official journal, Neuropsychopharmacology, both researchers play a vital role in shaping the discourse and driving progress within the discipline. This conference continues to serve as a pivotal forum for sharing groundbreaking discoveries and fostering collaborations that will ultimately improve our understanding and treatment of addiction and other neuropsychiatric conditions.
