The 10th Annual P50/P30 Center Retreat

Congratulations to the De Guglielmo Lab on their impressive contributions to the 10th Annual P50/P30 Center Retreat organized by Dr. Abraham Palmer on September 6th, 2024!

Leading the charge, Marsida Kallupi and Giordano de Guglielmo delivered captivating talks that showcased the depth and breadth of the lab's research.

Marsida's talk, titled "GABAergic Modulation as a Key Predictor of Addiction Severity in the Central Amygdala: A Comparative Study with Glutamate," delved into the crucial role of GABAergic signaling in the central amygdala as a key determinant of addiction severity, offering valuable insights for the development of targeted interventions.

Giordano's presentation, "Exploring Genetic Influences on Alcohol Use Disorder: A Comprehensive Study of Addiction-like Behaviors in Heterogeneous Stock Rats," highlighted the lab's innovative approach to unraveling the complex genetic underpinnings of alcohol use disorder using a genetically diverse animal model. This work holds immense promise for advancing personalized treatment strategies.

 In addition to the captivating talks, our talented researchers Maria Balaguer and Paola Campo presented impressive posters that further showcased the lab's cutting-edge work.

Maria's poster, "Genetic Factors in Alcohol Use Disorder: From Individual and Cellular Differences to Medication Development,"  coauthored by: Michelle R Doyle, Selen Dirik, Angelica R Martinez, Paola Campo, Mohini R Iyer, Xiuhan Li, Alex A Morgan, Kalie A Quon-Adams, Adam Shi, Anirudh Vaiyapari, and Giordano de Guglielmo, explored the intricate relationship between genetic factors and the development of alcohol use disorder, paving the way for more effective pharmacological interventions.

Paola's poster, "Nicotinic α3β4 receptor modulates addiction-like behaviors in alcohol dependent rats,"  coauthored by Michelle R Doyle, Selen Dirik, Ran Qiao, Nurulain T Zaveri, Marsida Kallupi, & Giordano de Guglielmo, highlighted the promising potential of targeting the nicotinic α3β4 receptor system to mitigate addiction-like behaviors in alcohol-dependent animal models, offering hope for novel treatment approaches.
